Kenshin Festival

This festival dedicated to warlord Uesugi Kenshin’s courage and virtue takes place every mid-August. Warriors with real armor and helmets march to Mt. Kasuga Shrine in a procession up to the foot of the mountains.![]()

Mt. Myoko Sekiyama Shrine Fire Festival
Mt. Myoko Sekiyama Shrine Fire Festival is a festival boasting 1200 years of tradition. Many events take place including traditional stick-fighting, pine-tree pulling, portable shrine parades, dancing, and sumo wrestling. Also, the branches of a giant pine tree are lit on fire in a ritual to pray for a good harvest.![]()
