Niigata Festival
The Niigata Festival lasts three days starting on August 7. See float parades and fireworks displays, as well as the piece de resistance, a folk dance procession of 20,000 people.

Shirone Giant Kite Battle
The Shirone Giant Kite Battle takes place on the banks of the Nakanokuchi River, and is one of the largest events of its kind in the world. An observance with a long history, the battle is said to have began in the mid-Edo Period. Giant kites, about 40㎡in size, vigorously dance and fight in the sky while they try to pull each other down.

Yahiko Shrine Chrysanthemum Festival
This flower festival takes place every November, and is an event where you can observe the pure beauty of chrysanthemums. 6,000 entries showing style and technique from chrysanthemum lovers from all over the prefecture are put on display on the shrine grounds.

Niigata Winter Shoku no Jin Food Festival
The Niigata Winter Shoku no Jin is an event with the theme of Niigata’s winter food. Enjoy walking while enjoying the tastes of the participating restaurants, or sit and enjoy Niigata’s hot pot specialties. There are also special lodging deals for you to come and enjoy the tastes of Niigata’s winter.

Fox Bride Procession
In accordance with local legend, a bride made up to look like a fox along with 108 attendants march to the wedding site in this ceremonial rite. At the main venue the bride meets her suitor and has a wedding ceremony. The audience also puts on makeup, creating an entire town of foxes.

Gosen Tulip Festival
The tulip is the prefectural flower, as Niigata produces the most nationwide. This festival takes place in conjunction with the spring bloom.
