Shirone Giant Kite Battle

Shirone Giant Kite BattleThe Shirone Giant Kite Battle takes place on the banks of the Nakanokuchi River, and is one of the largest events of its kind in the world. An observance with a long history, the battle is said to have began in the mid-Edo Period. Giant kites, about 40㎡in size, vigorously dance and fight in the sky while they try to pull each other down.

Fox Bride Procession

Fox Bride ProcessionIn accordance with local legend, a bride made up to look like a fox along with 108 attendants march to the wedding site in this ceremonial rite. At the main venue the bride meets her suitor and has a wedding ceremony. The audience also puts on makeup, creating an entire town of foxes.
