Kasuga Mountain Castle
This impregnable mountain castle was once the home of warlord Uesugi Kenshin. Many remnants of the castle including mounds, moats, and wells remain to this day.

Japanese Ski Memorial Museum
In 1914 Austrian soldier Theodor von Lerch taught the first Japanese how to ski in Joetsu City. At this museum, historical documents and old ski equipment are on display, along with personal belongings of von Lerch.
